About

A locally rooted specialty shop often used for choosing sake, honkaku shochu, and wine in Morioka. Refrigeration and quality control are solid, and the range covers not only Iwate jizake but also sake from other regions such as Shimane, Nara, and Shiga, plus aged sake. The building looks like a large house, so the sign is easy to miss on a first visit, but for anyone who likes a drink it is worth seeking out.

How to buy

The strength is consultative buying: tell the proprietress your taste and she recommends bottles along with each brewery's character and the background to how the sake was made. Hard-to-find labels such as Akabu come in, and appealing names such as Ohmine, Nito, Narumi, and Matsu no Tsukasa can also be seen. Shipping for gifts can be arranged, and shochu can likewise be chosen while hearing about the story and production method. That said, the origin labelling on the shelves is not especially intuitive, and opinions on the service vary with how the conversation goes, so it is better to describe your taste specifically at a quiet time rather than a busy one.

Getting there

About 5 minutes by car from Morioka Station, on the Morioka loop road. The sign does not stand out, so you can drive past even with navigation on — approach slowly. There is parking in front of the shop, but not many spaces, so it can fill up when busy, and there is a step at the entrance, so a low car is safer entering at an angle.
