About

The large liquor specialty store mentioned most often in the Kyoto Station and Gojo Station area. The Meishukan side covers sake from across Japan, Kyoto jizake, seasonal releases, namazake, shochu, and liqueur, while the Budokan side holds wine separately. The store is large and well displayed, so you can take your time, but with so many options beginners are better off asking staff for recommendations.

How to buy

Good prices and a wide range make it a frequent stop for visitors buying sake in Kyoto. Cards, transit e-money, and QR payments such as PayPay, Alipay, and WeChat Pay are accepted, but according to reviews tax-free is not available. Namazake and popular sake from each region are plentiful, and staff will find a bottle for you if you show them a photo of what you want. Some say the packing is a little lacking, so if you are buying several bottles it is safer to bring a bag or cushioning material.

Getting there

A 5-minute walk from exit 5 of Gojo Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway, or 8 minutes from exit 1 of Keihan Kiyomizu-Gojo Station. You can walk from Kyoto Station too, but it takes about 15 minutes, so a taxi is easier on the way back if you buy a lot of bottles. Parking is 3 spaces right beside the shop to the west, plus 4 spaces in the shop's own lot 50 m to the west.
