About

A long-established local sake specialist in Yotsuya, founded in 1850. Back when sake was still kept at room temperature, the shop took its cue from wine quality control and split its basement cold storage into three temperature ranges, and that storage and condition management is its strength. Attached behind the sales floor is the kakuuchi 立呑処 鈴傳 (Suzuden standing bar), where you can drink local sake from across the country with homemade snacks, standing, in the atmosphere of an old liquor shop.

How to buy

You buy bottles on the sales floor, and at the kakuuchi behind it you order glass by glass at the counter and pay as you go. Arrival information is posted on the official arrivals page, but exact stock is normally confirmed by phone or fax. Orders placed in the morning can be delivered the same day depending on conditions, and Yu-Pack cash-on-delivery shipping is available. Popular labels such as Juyondai and Hanaabi sometimes go to the standing bar or to regulars, so stock for general purchase is not guaranteed. It is safest to assume payment is mainly cash.

Getting there

About 2 minutes on foot from the Yotsuya and Akasaka exits of JR Yotsuya Station, and from the Akasaka exit of Yotsuya Station on the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi and Namboku Lines. It is one street in from Shinjuku-dori — turn left at the docomo shop and you will see the sign. On weekdays the kakuuchi is busy from the moment it opens and a wait can form, but since it is standing-only, turnover is fast.
